Other Information
We are a charity run setting with a newly formed Parent/School Governor Committee within the grounds of Scawby Academy School. We are a self-contained unit with joint access to a large out-door area with the Foundation Unit of Scawby Academy. The Pre-School operates for 2- 4 years and the Breakfast/Out of School Club and Holiday Club facility for 3 - 11 year olds. (Please note that holiday club is only available during the Easter and Summer Holidays). We work closely in partnership with the Foundation unit and have developed positive relationships with the teaching staff. We work effectively in partnership with the School, LA and other outside agencies. We have worked extremely hard to achieve high quality continuous provision and ensure that appropriate enhancements are used to develop our provision in line with the children’s interests. We offer the 2 year old funding to children who are eligible and also the 3/4 year old universal 15 hours funding and the extended 30 hours for children who are eligible.

Stepping Stones of Scawby offer support, guidance and advice to all its children and parents/carers through a rigorous in-depth keyperson system overseen by two SENCO Co-ordinators namely Nicola Everatt (pre-school children) and Anne Bontoft (out of school club children and administrator). Nicola and Anne work in partnership with all key person staff and the Manager to provide specialist work in SENCO. Anne has over 20 years of experience and undertakes regular SENCO training to update her knowledge, whereas Nicola is new to the role and has completed the 4 part SENCO training and updates her knowledge as and when required. At the start of their time in pre-school the parents are given a welcome booklet which informs them of the SENCO Co-ordinators; the registration form gives parents/carers the opportunity to inform the setting of any additional needs and they have sight of our Equal Opportunities Policy which covers a section on the SEN Code of Practice. Each child is allocated a keyperson straightaway at the start of their pre-school experience and this is the person the parents/carers have their first point of contact if they have any concerns. We have an open door policy and encourage parents/carers to involve themselves with their child’s planning. A parent/carer or keyperson may raise concerns about a child; the child’s needs will be assessed and the support/resources given an identified need i.e. referral to an outside agency. Opportunities are put in place for parents/carers to discuss their child’s progress via various methods including 2 year checks in conjunction with Health Visitor; twice yearly parents evenings and confidential 1:1 meetings if required. If an outside agency is needed i.e. health visitor, speech and language therapist, psychologist etc., the reporting arrangements will be conducted through the SENCO and keyperson and liaised back to parents/carers where there will be opportunities for parents/carers to meet and speak to all professionals. It is important to recognise that Stepping Stones of Scawby applies the SEN Code of Practice to ensure that children with special needs and their families are welcomed and fully included in all aspects of pre-school life. The building itself is accessible to all offering one level setting with wheelchair access and an outside area catering for all children with identified needs. The staff receive on-going training to ensure children’s needs are identified at the earliest opportunity and through activities and attention to any related health care needs, they make the maximum progress possible.
