At Little Tots Nursery we are focused on children reaching their full potential. We are committed to producing a service that provides equality of opportunity and high achievement for all children. This includes following our policy of Equality and Diversity which has SEND imbedded in throughout. We promote a consistent approach to meeting children’s needs and allowing them to be heard and take part in decisions about their education. We work in partnership with families and carers to meet all individual needs. From this, any support can be identified as quickly as possible and early action can be taken to meet those needs. To be able to support the children and their families further, we have strong partnerships with outside agencies; including Health Visitors, Children Centres, Early Years Support Team, Children’s Services, Hearing and Visual impairment service, and many others of which we liaise with on a regular basis if required. We believe that parents and carers views play an important part in supporting their children’s learning and development, so it is essential they are actively involved from the start. Children that have any additional needs will be offered support from our three SENCo’s Michelle Ray, Emma Taylor and Cherie Hunter, of who support the key person regarding each child. This will allow all individual children to be offered a balanced and relevant education following the Early Years Foundation Stage. All staff within Little Tots Nursery attend regular training and keep themselves up to date with any changes. The setting follows the Special Educational Needs and Disability Code of Practice, this meaning that all children and their parents will be notified if any decisions are made by the setting around the individual needs of the child. The setting recognises that parents hold the key information that will support their children’s learning, as parents share many experiences and have good knowledge of their needs, and the child themselves also have an active role in their own development, and will work in partnership at all times. If a child is recognised to have an additional need, the setting follows the graduated approach, which means the child’s need is identified early and support is carried out through day to day activities within the setting. Contact will be kept with parents and carers, and we will all work with outside agencies when required. If children are moving to a new school or setting, we as a setting will liaise with the school to ensure they are aware of the people and agencies that are involved with individual children. We feel this supports a smooth transition and allows staff to attend any relevant training that may be required for the new setting.
