Our Nursery is based within a Children's Centre which is designed on one level and offers easy access to
both indoor and outdoor play. Within the Nursery we have equipment and resources which can be
moved to create more space if required. Activities can also be adapted to different levels to allow all
children to experience play and learning opportunities.
Our Nursery has 2 identified SENCO's who take the lead in attending training updating the staff team,
caring for children and support colleagues to meet the needs of children with special educational needs
and disability. Our staff are trained to Level 3 through to Early Years Professional Status and they access regular training to update their knowledge and skills which ensures we offer the best care possible. Staff would be willing to train to provide medication/feeds to meet individual needs.
We have cared for a number of children with life limiting conditions, physical development needs, learning
difficulties and health issues. All the children in our care enjoyed the Nursery and parents spoke
positively of the care and learning we offered their children. We work positively with agencies/professionals to develop strategies to support our children. We are also able to advise when extra support may be required either for the child, parent or staff members.
We have written policies which detail our commitment to all our children including SEND Policy, equality of
opportunities, safeguarding, health and safety, medication and specific policies linked to the routines within
the Nursery.
We can work with parents to plan flexible introductions into the Nursery which include visits with parents,
sessions for just the child and hours can then be gradually increased as appropriate.
If a child is transitioning to school or moving on to a new setting, the child’s key person and SENCO are
invited to observe the child and discuss the child’s strengths and needs. The Key person and SENCO
can attend meetings and share targets. When a child is transitioning their views and feelings can be shared
through photographs reflecting what they have done, achieved and enjoyed. Look at me folders and other
relevant documents are passed on to the receiving setting.
