Other Information
We are a committee run Early Years setting, providing Care and Education for 2-4 year olds, in a safe, stimulating and caring environment.
Our objective is to give each child the opportunity to reach their own goals and build a foundation for their future achievements, by providing activities and events that will develop and strengthen their social, communication and physical skills.
We recognise that each child is an individual and should be allowed to develop at his/her own rate and we employ a Key Person to support a child's settling in process, play with, observe, assess and make recommendations for further learning opportunities as well as be a point of contact for parents/carers.
Working in partnership with parents/carers, our overall aims are to give each child the opportunity to reach their own goals and build a foundation for their future achievements by helping them to Be Healthy, Stay Safe, Enjoy and Make a Positive Contribution.
Belwood Pre-school has recently achieved the Full Steps to Quality Accreditation Award.

We are an Early Years setting offering pre-school care and education to children aged 2 to 4yrs old. We run sessions 4 days a week over 38 weeks a year. We are open 9am - 3pm offering flexible attendance, where parents can choose start and finish times within these hours to suit theirs and their children’s needs. The premises having ramped access, with all facilities-playroom, foyer, toilets and outside play area, being on the ground floor.
It is our intention to make our pre-school genuinely accessible to children and families from all sections of the community, regardless of ability, culture, gender or age, with and without disabilities or special educational needs. All children are respected and their individuality and potential recognised, valued and nurtured. Activities and the use of play equipment offers children opportunities to develop in an environment free from prejudice and discrimination.
To support us in this, the pre-school has written policies and procedures that are followed by all staff and shared with parents/carers. Reviewed regularly these policies take into account the needs of children, parents and adults working with children attending Belwood.
We have good working relationships with multi agency professionals, including health visitors, community nursing teams, SALT, the Early Years Inclusion/SEN team and paediatric therapists.
We have a team of staff who all hold relevant Early Years qualifications, as well as Communication & Language development. We have a members of staff trained in using makaton sign language, moving and handling of children with physical disabilities, visual and or hearing impairment, working with children on the autistic spectrum, and a range of medical conditions such as epilepsy, asthma & allergies.
We have a setting SENCO with over 15 years experience in the role-Katrina Barker, who is supported by Michelle Drayton. Both of whom work closely with parents and families, building good working partnerships, having regard and a knowledge that it is a child’s parents/carer who is the main educator and has the greatest knowledge of their child, their achievements, specific needs & interests. We offer transition visits to the preschool, where opportunities are in place for other professionals already working with children before entry to preschool can share their involvement with children, any target outcomes and strategies already in place to support a continuous learning and development plan for individual children. And when a child eventually moves onto nursery or school, we can support that transition, with opportunities arranged between preschool, school and other professionals, for visits between settings, sharing of information, the child’s achievements, needs and again any outcomes/strategies.
