Special Needs
At 1st choice childminders, I am very focused on children reaching their full potential.
Through working closely with parents from the starting point, observing their children's interests and following next steps to further their learning and experience, through varied fun activities (which are shared with parents on my facebook pages).
The children have access to continuous provision, a choices folder and are shown pictures of activities available to do.
I document childrens progress and then work with the EYFS guidelines to see if children are meeting the targets within the age bands (if not I will concentrate on helping them to reach these goals).
I have a considerable amount of experience with children with whom English as an additional language (currently I have have had children from Poland, Pakistan, Philippines, Lithuania &Russia) AGAIN working with parents is crucial to the childs transition to another culture (whilst still respecting their own family traditions~which we encourage).
I have had training in but haven't yet had any hands on experience with children with Special Educational needs in my setting.
I have an Equality of Opportunity policy showing that my practise is inclusive to ALL children with no exception.
I would do further training if needed, as well as working with outside agencies.
I have links with my local childrens centre from going to sessions run there.
I have contact with the Early years team within my local authority, with whom I attend training and receive support whenever needed.
I liaise with other settings to gain or provide information to continue to meet the needs of the individual child/ren.
